UN Sounds Alarm Over Cuba’s Fuel Crisis

Cuba’s fuel emergency has intensified after Washington halted oil shipments from its long-standing partner Venezuela, which previously delivered tens of thousands of barrels daily. This interruption came in the wake of a U.S. operation that apprehended former Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro and confiscated oil tanker vessels, effectively stopping key fuel imports.
The worsening energy shortfall has fueled broader concerns about the basic needs of Cuban citizens, with other international reports underscoring the risk of a severe humanitarian breakdown if fuel supplies are not restored.
